Alongside our trusses and engineered timber products, Nuneaton Roof Truss manufactures spandrel panels that save time and money on site as well as delivering superior performance.

A cost-effective alternative to traditional blockwork gable ends, spandrel panels are growing in popularity among British housebuilders. Bringing significant advantages, both on-site and to the completed building, spandrels are timber frame panels that remove the need for traditional masonry and, with it, several significant difficulties that builders experience on developments.

Understanding spandrels

Spandrel panels are pre-assembled structural timber panels clad with OSB board and plasterboard. They can be used as separating walls or as an external gable wall panel. A typical spandrel consists of two plasterboards on each face of a base truss.

A spandrel panel helps save time during construction as it replaces the need for conventional masonry construction. They also provide excellent performance in both sound and fire ratings, adding factory precision to a significant element of house construction.

In addition, unlike traditional brick gable ends, which are open to the elements and cannot be constructed during certain weather conditions, spandels do not suffer weather-related delays and reduce on-site high-risk health and safety issues.

At Nuneaton Roof Truss, we manufacture our spandrel panels with factory-fitted slings, making them easy to install as they can be craned into position. This removes the need for the addition of an extra lift of scaffolding, so reducing both labour and scaffolding costs.
